HOUSE COLOR: TEAM ASSIGNMENT RULES

To create our teams we need to consider 2 cases:

  1. First Time Team Assignments
  2. New Member Team Assignments

First-Time Team Assignment Procedure

The initial team assignments into the 4 colors will be done by the current YTSA organizers with their past 2 years’ experience from the Sports Day events.  An attempt at a balanced team will be done again this year.  This initial split will be based on:

  1. Ability in each sport planned for the sports day.  Members will usually get to play their first choice sports including soccer, basketball, chair ball, and volleyball.
  2. Athletic ability for Track and Field events on sports day.
  3. Consideration to individual Gurbani skills including shabad, recital, kirtan, and etc. We will try to consider this, although it will be secondary at this point.
  4. Consideration to individual Talent in singing, music, dance, and drama. We will try to consider this, although it will be secondary at this point.

Children will also be assigned a team color. There will be no consideration to place family members within the same team.  Once the teams are assigned, there can be no changes.  However, if after some competition it is determined that a team is weak in an area, they will have the first pick of new members in that area whenever new members appear.

 New Member Team Assignment Procedure

New team members will first be ranked based on their various skills including each sport, each Gurbani activity, and each Talent activity.  After each event, the 4th and 3rd ranked team in each activity will receive a 1st and 2nd pick card for that activity (if there is no such ranking, it will done by random pick).  This card can be exchanged to obtain a new YTSA member in the future (otherwise, the new member is assigned randomly).  For example, if there is a new member with a high Gurbani quiz ability, the team with the worst Gurbani quiz score can exchange their first-pick card for this individual.

If an individual excels in both basketball and cricket, for example, it is possible they will have competing cards traded for them. First pick cards do have precedence over second pick cards, of course, but if the 2 cards have the same precedence, arbitration will be decided by the team with poorer overall score getting the first pick. There will be a subcommittee represented by 1 member from each team to discuss assignment of new members, overseen by the YTSA committee members.  The exact cards to be used and for which activities will be decided later.
